Reconstruction:Proto-Permic/bi
Proto-Permic
Reconstruction notes
- Reconstructed based on the assumption that this term goes back to some Uralic root or other.
Etymology
Unclear. Proposed theories include:
- From Proto-Uralic *päjwä (“day”), thus related to Proto-Finnic *päivä and Proto-Samic *peajvē.
- From Proto-Uralic *päje (“fire”), related to Eastern Khanty пай (paj, “thunder”) and Northern Sami baján (“thunder”).
- Somehow related to *püni (“to cook”).
