From Proto-Balto-Slavic *grūˀźtei, according to Pokorny, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷruHǵʰ-, see also Ancient Greek βρύκω (brúkō).[1] Cognate with Lithuanian gráužti (to gnaw) and Latvian grauzt.
