Proto-Slavic

Etymology

From a Germanic language, most likely Gothic 𐌿𐌻𐌱𐌰𐌽𐌳𐌿𐍃 (ulbandus). Anlaut *velь- instead of more precise **vъl- probably due to contamination with *velь.

From early *vъlьb(l)ǫdъ < *vъlbǫdъ < *ulbandъ < *ulbandu, from Gothic 𐌿𐌻𐌱𐌰𐌽𐌳𐌿𐍃 (ulbandus).

Noun

*velьb(l)ǫdъ m
