Etymology
From *pöri (“young boy”) + *-l (“plural suffix”). *pöri is probably related or borrowed from Proto-Mongolic *hüre (“seed”), whence Mongolian үр (ür, “seed; semen”).
Janhunen also assumes that this word is the irregular plural form of the word *pöte (“child”) which has the traces of the plural suffix *-te, however also states that these two words may completely have different etymologies.
Noun
*pöril
- plural of *pöri (“young boy”): children
