Etymology

From *pöri (young boy) +‎ *-l (plural suffix). *pöri is probably related or borrowed from Proto-Mongolic *hüre (seed), whence Mongolian үр (ür, seed; semen).

Janhunen also assumes that this word is the irregular plural form of the word *pöte (child) which has the traces of the plural suffix *-te, however also states that these two words may completely have different etymologies.

Noun

*pöril

  1. plural of *pöri (young boy): children
