Etymology

From *zbel (lightning) +‎ *thurd (to throw), thus "the lightning thrower", "the lightning bearer"[1].[2] Compare with the Ancient Greek theonym Ζεύς κεραύνιος (Zeús keraúnios, Zeus the thunderer) and the Russian mythonym громовержец (gromoveržec, thunder thrower).
