Sơn Trà
Vietnamese
Etymology
Sino-Vietnamese word from 山茶, composed of 山 and 茶. Some ancient sources give the name as 茶山 (Trà Sơn). Ultimate origin of the element trà is disputed. The name could be a mispronunciation of Sơn Chà (or Sơn Chà could be a mispronunciation of Sơn Trà). Various theories exist for the origin of the element trà/chà. Many toponyms in the region contain trà, and this could be of Cham origin.
