From Medieval Latin Sanctus Genesius, from Ancient Greek Γενέσιος (Genésios), patron saint of the local parish of San Xenxo de Padriñán, attested as Old Galician-Portuguese San Gẽes de Padriñán in 1396.[1] A similar development led to San Xens de Bamio, attested as Sam Gẽgo de Vámeo in 1457.[2] By surface analysis, san +‎ Xenxo.
