From Ecclesiastical Latin sarabaita, possibly from Coptic ⲥⲁ (sa) +‎ ⲣⲁⲩⲏ (rauē) or Coptic ⲥⲁ (sa) +‎ ⲣⲁ (ra) +‎ ⲁⲩⲏⲧ (auēt). Compare with ⲥⲁⲣⲁⲕⲱⲧⲉ (sarakōte).
