Sino-Vietnamese word from 紫禁城, composed of 紫 (“purple; violet”), 禁 (“forbidden”) and 城 (“city”).
Purple refers to the North Star, which in traditional Chinese astrology was the heavenly abode of the Celestial Emperor.
