From Epic Greek τῠτθός (tŭtthós, “small, young, little”) +‎ Scincus (type genus of skinks).

Coined by researcher Charles W. Linkem, by Filipino herpetologist Arvin Cantor Diesmos and by zoologist Rafe M. Brown in 2011.
