Westerlittens

Dutch

Etymology

First attested as letenzera zyl in 1469. From wester- (western, west-) and Old Frisian Lêta (a personal name) suffixed with the collectivising suffix -ingi-. The Frisian name is an independent development of the toponym. The element wester- was added to distinguish the settlement from Oosterlittens.
