From Old Irish admat (invention, device, material, timber),[2] from Proto-Celtic *ad-mentos, from *manyetor (think, remember), from Proto-Indo-European *men- (to think). Cognate with Manx ymmyd. O’Rahilly suggests the etymology *ad-mazdo- and cognate maide (wood, stick).[3]
