Alteration of English abrecock (obsolete form of apricot), from Catalan albercoc, from Arabic الْبَرْقُوق (al-barqūq, “plums”), from Byzantine Greek βερικοκκία (berikokkía, “apricot tree”), from Ancient Greek πραικόκιον (praikókion), ultimately from Late Latin (persica) praecocia. Compare Welsh bricyll.
