Usage notes

The Portuguese-Language Orthographic Agreement of 1990, like its predecessors, states that the diphthong /ɐ̃j̃/ is written ⟨ãi⟩ when unstressed, and as such the Brazilian Academy of Letters lists cãibra as the correct spelling in its Orthographic Vocabulary. However, many other commentators consider both spellings valid.
