Simplified learned borrowing from German Cormophylogenie, itself from Ancient Greek κορμός (kormós) +‎ Phylogenie; equivalent to a reduction of Ancient Greek κορμός (kormós) +‎ phylogeny to Ancient Greek κορμός (kormós, “tree-trunk”) +‎ -phyly (“tribehood”).
