From Proto-Italic *krok-, from imitative Proto-Indo-European *k(V)r-, related to several other Indo-European words such as Lithuanian kriõkti (“to rattle, grunt”), Sanskrit कृकर (kṛkara, “partridge”),[1] Ancient Greek κρώζω (krṓzō). See also cornīx (“crow”), corvus (“raven”).
