dukem

Albanian

Etymology

From Proto-Albanian *duk-, from Proto-Indo-European *dewk- (to draw). An etymological connection to ancient Greek δοκέω and Gothic þugkjan (to think, to appear) is phonetically impossible. The use of third-person singular present of δοκέω, δοκεῖ ("it seems" [to me]) in ancient Greek probably influenced its use in the form më duket (it seems to me) in Albanian.[1]
