From Proto-Bantu *kɪ̀ntʊ̀, from Proto-Bantu *-ntʊ̀ (some, any). Cognate with Swahili kitu (thing), Kikuyu kĩndũ (thing, property. livestock) and Shona chinhu (thing). Doublet of omuntu (person), ahantu (place), and obuntu (humanity).
