Borrowed from Greek επίσκοπος (epískopos), from Byzantine Greek, from Ancient Greek ἐπίσκοπος (epískopos) (perhaps partly borrowed through Latin episcopus or Old Church Slavonic епискоупъ (episkupŭ)). Cf. also the archaic or regional doublet piscup.
