Etymology

From Middle Welsh golchi, from Proto-Brythonic *gwölxid, from Proto-Celtic *wolkīti, from Proto-Indo-European *welg- (wet, damp). Cognate with Cornish golhi, Breton gwalc'hiñ, Irish folc (to wash), Scottish Gaelic failc (to bathe).
