Possibly inherited from Ancient Greek γοῦρνα (goûrna), from Classical Syriac ܓܘܪܢܐ (gūrnā, “large vessel; coffin, sarcophagus”) or another Aramaic language. Unrelated to Latin urna (“urn”).
