From Proto-Tocharian *kātsān (whence also Tocharian B kātso). Further origin uncertain; most likely from a derivative of Proto-Indo-European *gʷet- (swelling, rounding; stomach, gut), in which case cognate with Old English cwiþ (pregnant).
