From Javanese klenthéng (ꦏ꧀ꦭꦼꦤ꧀ꦛꦺꦁ),

  • From Hokkien 觀音亭观音亭, compound of 觀音 / 观音 (koan-im, Guanyin) +‎ (têng, pavilion).
  • Affixed ke- +‎ *lenteng, from Hokkien 禮堂礼堂 (lé-tn̂g, “assembly hall”, literally “rite hall”), a type of Confucian temple.
