    Inherited from Proto-Iranian *Hraxšakarah, a compound of *Hráxšati (to protect, guard) +‎ *karah (doer), of which the former element is from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hrákšati (to protect).[1] Compare Sanskrit रक्षति (rakṣati).
