matsenga
Chichewa
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /maˈt͡se.ᵑɡa/
Noun
matsenga class 6
Derived terms
- wamatsenga (“sorcerer, witch, wizard”)
- zamatsenga (“bewitchment, magic things”)
Notes
Given that the singular of this noun begins with 'ts', one would expect the plural to lose the 't'. However, according to the Oxford Chichewa Dictionary, the 't' is retained in the plural, or they have spelt words with the 't' retained.
It seems like both the plural and the singular can be used to refer to magic. Nevertheless, it is noticeable that in the English-Chichewa section of the dictionary, the plural is used more often than the singular.
