Etymology

From *(ë)m-byt, with the prefix identical to that in mbloj and inherited from Proto-Albanian *án(a)- (on, upon). The base *byt comes from *býti < Proto-Albanian *búti < *bútit < *búti̯it < *búti̯et < Pre-Proto-Albanian *búti̯ét < *bʰut-i̯é-ti, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰut-i̯é/ó- (to strike), from *bʰeu̯d- (to strike).[2]
