moeg

Afrikaans
Etymology
From Dutch moe, moede, from Proto-West Germanic *mōþī. Probably a backformation from the inflected forms of moe by analogy with such paradigms as hoog > hoë, laag > lae (with regular loss of intervocalic g). On the other hand, the form moeg also occurs in Brabantian and Flemish dialects, which have a palatal pronunciation of g and where therefore these forms are considered backformations from moeie (i.e. moeie > moei > moeg; cf. also Limburgish meug). Perhaps this southern Dutch moeg was reinforced by the internal Afrikaans analogy.
