Univerbation of qaws Alla, literally “bow of God”, from Arabic قَوْس الله (qaws allāh, “bow of God”), pious alteration of قَوْس قُزَح (qaws quzaḥ), which was named after a pre-Islamic deity, but continues to be the predominant form in Arabic.
