     Quyền uy và tự trị là những điều tương đối mà phạm vi áp dụng thì tuỳ theo những giai đoạn khác nhau của sự phát triển xã hội mà thay đổi. Nếu những người chủ trương tự trị chỉ muốn nói rằng tổ chức xã hội tương lai sẽ chỉ để cho quyền uy được tồn tại trong những giới hạn do những điều kiện sản xuất tất nhiên quy định, – nếu họ nói thế thì chúng ta có thể đồng ý với họ được. Nhưng họ lại nhắm mắt trước tất cả những sự việc khiến cho quyền uy trở thành cần thiết và họ cứ lao vào phản đối danh từ.

     Authority and autonomy are relative things whose spheres vary with the various phases of the development of society. If the autonomists confined themselves to saying that the social organisation of the future would restrict authority solely to the limits within which the conditions of production render it inevitable, we could understand each other; but they are blind to all facts that make the thing [authority] necessary and they passionately fight the word.
