rüh
Central Franconian
Alternative forms
Etymology
From Middle High German rō, from Old High German (h)rō, from Proto-Germanic *hrawaz. The umlaut is unusual (compare Luxembourgish réi). It might be that the inflected stem, which was originally *hraw-, was reformed locally to *hrōj- (elsewhere hrō-, hrōw-, hrāw-).
