Etymology 2
Attested in Phật thuyết đại báo phụ mẫu ân trọng kinh (佛說大報父母恩重經) as 阿並 (MC 'a bengX) (modern SV: a tịnh)[1] and 并, a simplified form of 並 (MC bengX) (modern SV: tịnh). 並 (“to be side by side”) was used possibly because of its rime and its semantic closeness to sánh ("to compare"), as ‹s-› /ʂ ~ s/ is not known to come from /*b-/ (see Shimizu, 2015 & 2018).
Attested as ſánh in the Dictionarium Annamiticum Lusitanum et Latinum (1651).
