scalar triple product (plural scalar triple products)

1. (mathematics) The dot product of one of the three vectors with the cross product of the other two.

In mathematical terms, the scalar triple product of three vectors ${\displaystyle \mathbf {a} \ }$, ${\displaystyle \mathbf {b} \ }$ and ${\displaystyle \mathbf {c} \ }$ is ${\displaystyle \mathbf {a} \cdot (\mathbf {b} \times \mathbf {c} )}$, or the scalar product (dot product) of ${\displaystyle \mathbf {a} \ }$ with the vector product (cross product) ${\displaystyle \mathbf {b} \times \mathbf {c} }$. It is a scalar quantity.
