Etymology
From Old Frisian *skive, from Proto-Germanic *skibō. Immediately cognate with Middle Low German schēve (“small piece”). This is a byform of Proto-Germanic *skībǭ, whence Föhr-Amrum Frisian skiiw, Dutch schijf, German Scheibe (all “disk, slice”).
