From Malay sundal, from Javanese ꦱꦸꦤ꧀ꦢꦼꦭ꧀ (sundel, prostitute), from Old Javanese sundĕl (prostitute), caṇḍāla (wicked), from Sanskrit चाण्डाल (cāṇḍāla, outcast). Doublet of cendala and jendala.
