- Archaic form of symbiont.
- 1925, Journal of the Royal Army Medical Corps, volumes 44-45, page 152:
- It is argued, therefore, that the specificity of L. icteroides in yellow fever has not been proved, and that its presence in cases of yellow fever is explained on the hypothesis that it is merely a symbion, though it may have some part to play in the induction of the hæmorrhagic phase of the disease.
