From takke- (“damned, fucking (vulgar intensifying prefix)”) +‎ eind (“end, distance”). The alternative form takkeneind results from the confusion between the prefix takke- and the unrelated word tak (“branch, twig”) and from the relative ease of pronunciation compared to the variant takke-eind which lacks an intervocalic consonant connecting the last two syllables.
