testun

Welsh

Etymology

From Middle Welsh testun, from Proto-Brythonic *testʉn, contracted from Latin testimōnium (testimony, evidence). It is unclear whether the contraction took place in Proto-Brythonic (thus via a form *testɨβ̃ʉn) or in Vulgar Latin (thus via a form *testōnium).[1] No contraction is seen in Old Irish testimin.
