Etymology
Inherited from Latin ūber, from Proto-Italic *ouðer, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁ówHdʰr̥ (“udder”). The change of the Latin consonant -b- to Romanian -g- is also witnessed in rug, neg, etc. In this case, it may also have been influenced by suge (“to suck”). The regional variant may have been influenced by mulge (“to milk”).
