Advertising totems are generally rectangular devices, around 1 meter width, and 6.5 meter high (up to 8 meter high). Generally implemented in the entrance of a place where a commercial or industrial activity takes place, to announce this activity. It is a form of advertising sign. Grounded, they can be lit, and they can be animated with digital prices for example for a gas station. Very common type of advertising device.

How to map

Create a node at the location of the totem. Then put the advertising= tag on it. You can add more details about it using these tags:

• Technical details
  • size=* : the dimensions of the totem itself, width * height.
  • height=* : the total height of the totem, maybe not necessary as redundant with height parameter of 'size'
  • lit=* : is the totem lit ? lit=yes or lit=no.
  • luminous=* : is the totem luminous ? luminous=yes or luminous=no.
  • animated=* : is the totem animated ? By which method ? animated=digital_prices animated=digital_messages
  • sides=* : how many sides does the totem have. Generally sides=2.
• Management
  • operator=* : the company hosting or managing or operating the totem.
  • ref=* : the totem reference if any.
  • access=* : can everybody change the content of the totem ? Generally access=no.
  • land_property=* : who is the owner of the land under the totem ? Generally land_property=private.
• Content and visibility
  • message=* : the kind of content shown on the totem. Generally message=commercial.
  • display_surface=* : the surface dedicated to the display of message (without the frame).
  • orientation=* : how is the totem directed compared to people/traffic flow.
  • direction=* : how is the totem directed (using cardinal points).
  • visibility=* : how far is the totem visible ? Generally visibility=street.
