A [W] tower viewer (also known as a pair of binoculars, spyglass) is a small telescope fixed in place with a pole. It can typically be found on touristic locations, viewpoints, on top of panoramic towers or occasionally on a nature reserve (e.g. in a leisure=bird_hide). Despite the tagging as binoculars, there is no requirement to have two oculars to use this tag. A single ocular at the location also qualifies to use this tag.

Often, but not always, a coin is demanded as fee=*.

Tags used in combination

  • fee=* – to indicate that a small fee has to be paid
  • charge=* – to indicate the exact amount of charge
  • direction=* – to indicate the direction the spyglass looks to. Use a single number if the spyglass is fixed, or a range if the spyglass can move between two directions (e.g. 45-90 if the spyglass can move between northeast and east). Use 0-360 if the spyglass can rotate everywhere.
