An individual washing machine which is available for public use. It's almost always a part of a laundry room.
This tag is currently not widely used.
For campsites, people often tag the campsite with washing_machine=yes and/or dryer=yes. See Proposed_features/Extend_camp_site. Those tags are widely used.
Not to be confused with amenity=dryer.
Never use for washing machines that are not available for public use, due to verifiability and privacy concerns.
If washing machine is inside a shop to wash clothes and bedding, then it can be also mapped as shop=laundry, and you can optionally tag the individual washing machines with amenity=.
How to map
Place a node at the location of the washing machine with the tag amenity=. Do not tag private washing machines!
Useful additional keys/tags
Use payment:coins=yes/no, payment:contactless=yes/no etc. to indicate the payment:*=* type.
As a separate , use amenity=dryer to indicate that a drying your laundry is also possible here.
