A contaminated area is an area contaminated by chemical agents. Examples include chemical dumps, tailings ponds, and former heavy-industry areas that may still be toxic.
Additional usages:
- When combined with
amenity=drinking_water, indicates a contaminated drinking water source that is still used as a drinking water source despite contamination. If the drinking water source is no longer used because of the contamination, it is not drinkable and thusamenity=drinking_waterwould be incorrect. - When used with
natural=waterorwaterway=*, indicates a contaminated water feature.
