Current usage in Norway

The tag is used to map parts of rivers that are only intermittently covered in water along with the underlying land in the combination waterway= intermittent=yes natural=*.

Previous usage

This tag was used as a general synonym for natural=water water=river. This use is eradicated from the map as of December 2022.
