The tag zoo=enclosure is used to describe a type of zoo (tagged with tourism=zoo) where the animals are kept in enclosures or cages. zoo=enclosure alone (without tourism=zoo) describes an individual enclosure in a zoo.
Enclosures are fenced areas on which otherwise wild animals are kept permanently.
How to map
As a type of zoo
Add zoo=enclosure to the tourism=zoo element.
As part of a zoo or as an individual enclosure
Create an area around the fence of an enclosure inside a tourism=zoo and tag it zoo=enclosure. Do not use tourism=zoo, when mapping individual enclosures or zoo parts.
If you are not sure of the border of the enclosure, you can place a single node in the middle of it, but an area is best.
Useful combinations
attraction=animalis a similar, way more popular tag that describes animal attractions, including individual zoo enclosures. You should always add this tag to individual (occupied) zoo enclosures. You can omit it for empty enclosures.name=*is applicable ONLY if the enclosure has a specific name (e.g "The Kangaroo Playground"). Do not usename=*for labeling the animal inside. Seeattraction=animalfor details.
There are more useful tags are described on tourism=zoo.
