  • Black Sam Bellamy captures the Whydah, a well-armed merchant ship, and promptly loses it in a hurricane off Cape Cod.* [2]

  • King George I issues the Act of Grace. Any pirate who turns themself in will be forgiven for all acts of piracy committed through December 1717. A new governor, Woodes Rogers, is sent to Nassau.[3]
