Events

• 1857-1858: Sepoy Mutiny. The Sepoys of the East India Company, encouraged by a lack of British troops through the Crimean War, turn against them. Spurred on by rumors that the british are to issue new ammunition greased with pig or cow fat, revolts break out. A major group of muslim Sepoys intends to restore the Mughal Empire and even call the aging emperor back into office. The conflicts end with the defeat of the rebels and the dissolution of the East India Company, placing India directly under Imperial rule.^[1]

• 1858-1882: France responds with military force to Vietnam's persecution of the French until the government agrees to French colonial rule.^[2]

• Construction of Central Park begins this year, and will continue through 1874. The two most responsible for the design and process, Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmstead, are two unknowing Kinfolk, whose designs will permit the caern at the site to survive the transition.^[3] The caern was originally a former Wendigo caern. ^[4]

• The Colorado Gold Rush begins as a group of Spanish-speaking prospectors from New Mexico, later known as the Fifty-Niners, discover gold while camping along the South Platte River.^[5]

• The East India Company is forced to turn control of India over to the British Crown.^[6]

• The Utah War ends with Brigham Young accepting a new governor and President Buchanan pardoning everyone involved.^[7]
