- In the early '50s, some amateur short-wave radio operators claim that David Hughes had not only decoded the mysterious signals he had received, but had left behind diagrams of a machine that would respond to the code. Though no one could identify the original transmission, instructions were widely disseminated and hundreds of "responders" have been built since.[1]
- Following Thomas Werner's heart attack and Jeremiah Moorcock's ascension to the position of director, Bishopsgate Hospice returns to its bloody roots, becoming a cruel place where relatives send the mentally ill to forget about them. The institution begins to turn to lobotomies.[2]
- An influx of Moroccan Jews settle in Acre.[3]
- School desegregation in the United States causes many white families to pull their children from public schools.[4]
- Ehlzahdha poses as Eliza Dawn, mistress of another well-known architect.[5]
- The Unrelenting Clown begins hunting visitors to his traveling circus.[6]
