Crucible Initiative
The Crucible Initiative are a False faction who take drastic measures to contain the Contagion.
Overview
The Initiative believe there is only one way to stop the Contagion, and that is to destroy it, and anything it's touched. Scorched-earth tactics are their default rather than a last resort. There's nothing to be gained by studying it or trying to manipulate, and no hope of a cure - it simply has to be destroyed, or else eventually it will destroy reality. It has no mercy, so neither do the Initiative.
They regard all the Sworn as naive and dangerous, only a little less of a threat than the Contagion itself. Whenever the Initiative identifies a Sworn base of operations, they raid it for information and then destroy it.
History
In the 1860s, after an outbreak of both plague and Contagion during the Taiping Rebellion, a pack of Chinese Pure were contacted by an angel, or so the Initiative claims. The God-Machine gave them the tools needed to root out the Contagion wherever it hid, and they named themselves for the alchemical crucible in which impurities are burned away.
Methods
The Crucible Initiative destroy anyone or anything that might be infected, taking no chances with its spread. They kill people, raze buildings, and salt the earth rather than leave any possible hiding place for Contagion to fester. On rare occasions, they abduct rather than kill right away; if they judge a particular individual is important enough, they may lock them up in "preventive care" indefinitely. Others are subjected to experiments to determine the most effective way to contain and eliminate powerful Contagious.
For the Initiative, nothing comes before the Contagion. They forswear all other commitments: Prometheans abandon the Pilgrimage, werewolves abandon their packs, changelings make common cause with hobgoblins and Huntsmen if need be. After all, what could be more important than saving the world?
Members
The Initiative directly employs more angels than any other faction (if "employs" is the right word). Other possibilities include alchemists or Ordo Dracul researchers, Contagion-sniffing Devoted Chimerics, and Insatiables who use stolen Lairs as isolation chambers and prison cells.
