Cursed Item
A cursed item is an object of power whose use always induces some sort of backlash against the user.[1]
Overview
These cursed objects are formed through acts of terrible cruelty, such as murder, rape, long-term abuse, mass slaughter, and the like.[2] Through these acts, the item becomes a link between the material world and the Shadow.[2] They always have some sort of power, and using that power always incurs a drawback.[2] Use of the item requires rolling whatever Morality trait the user possesses (Humanity, for example, for a vampire).
Spirits and occultists both are capable of recognizing these items.[2] Though spirits cannot themselves use cursed items, they have a tendency to hoard them.[2]
Examples
Examples of cursed items include a transformer that can compel squirrels to complete one task for the user, but promptly kills the squirrels after the task is completed[3]; a coffee cup that, when used, fills with cyanide but prevents the user from ever again speaking of the next to drink it[4]; and planks of wood that, when activated, prevent ephemeral beings from passing through the perimeter, but also radiate out screams of fear at unpredictable intervals.[5]
