Cyclics

The Cyclics were a sect of Inquisitors active in Constantinople following its capture by the Ottomans in 1453.[1] This group held that the God-Machine's withdrawal from the city was merely the latest event in a cycle of destruction and renewal wherein the Machine would "reboot" and update itself, pointing to its sacking in the Fourth Crusade as an earlier example.[1]

Given their views, Cyclics tended to act as historians and archeologists, seeking out evidence that might help prepare for the inevitable return of the God-Machine.[2]
